The Wonders That Are: MVs | Dying For Drama

Annyeong!

So I was watching BTS’ “FIRE” MV and I started thinking about the various different MVs I’ve seen, so I’m going to try and rank some of the weirdest, most epic, funniest and just plain randomest MVs I’ve seen in my short k-pop life. I'm going to keep it to two MVs per category, since given the sheer number

This post has also been with the participation of my friend and fellow k-popper, Gaëlle, who is a lot more knowledgable in MVs than I am.

Just Plain Weird

I mean how could I not feature this one? This is almost become a classic of the weird MV categories of any k-popper. My favourite parts have to be any scene with them at the urinals doing god knows what whilst peeing, and when the guy whacks GD over the head with the book!
I also really love the song, it's super catchy.

Dumb and Dumber - iKON

Shall we talk about this video? I don't quite know what to start with, between the giants with the huge hands, or Jinhwan sitting in a tree pretending to be an owl, and the scene when they're in the car - my god!

Pratically A Film Plot
RUN and I NEED U series - BTS

I know this isn't just one MV and more of a series but I couldn't not feature them, seeing as every single ARMY and most k-pop fans have been speculating about what the hell is happening in those MVs (and I don't think anyone ever will).

Back - INFINITE

This is basically a film in itself, let's face it. I mean, I don't understand what's going on, other than there's a girl who's been kidnapped and INFINITE is trying to get her back (hence the name) and they all get beaten up in the process and... that's all I've got.

The Box Kind
EXO - Mama

Other than the introduction, this is basically a box MV, though I personally quite like box MVs. I love the choreo and the concept of the MV too.

Block B - Toy

As I mentioned in my review of their newest EP, this is my favourite song of theirs in the whole thing. Despite it being a box MV, I really love it because the choreo is on point, and the camera work is exceptional.

The "Awwww I Love This Group!" MVs
We Like 2 Party - BIGBANG

Despite the fact that I had known about this song for ages, I'd never actually gotten around to listening to it and watching the MV. It's so cute!

And try as I might I can't find another MV that make me feel all gooey inside (sad face), though I'll add one in the future if I find one.

Then obviously you have the dance practises and the live shows but that's a whole different story.

What are your favourite MVs?

Drama Review: Madame Antoine | Dying For Drama

Annyeong!

I recently finished watching the drama 'Madame Antoine' and wanted to share my thoughts on the drama.

So for those who don't really know what this drama is about then allow me to explain. It starts with Go Hye Rim, owner of the cafe 'Madame Antoine' and fortune teller, who supposedly channels the spirit of Marie Antoinette who speaks to her to read people's fortunes. She then proceeds to meet the psychologist, Choi Soo Hyun, who has opened a psychological treatment center right above her cafe, that is also subsequently called 'Madame Antoine'. They immediately don't see eye to eye and dislike each other (causing a lot of bickering). Hye Rim is then placed as a counceler at the center, to both of their discontent. Partially in order to toy with Hye Rim, Soo Hyun decides to enlist her as the main experimental subject in an experiment he's carrying out in order to prove that true love does not exist. As part of the experiment, Soo Hyun sends out 2 other men (and his younger brother, a retired athlete, Choi Seung Chan, and Soo Hyun's assistant and young genius, Won Ji Ho) to try and win Hye Rim's heart. When he fails to find a third man for the experiment, Soo Hyun decides to put himself forward and also tries to woo Hye Rim. Shocks, surprises, laughs and humiliation insues.

I found out about this drama off a friend who had really enjoyed it, so I decided to have a watch and immediately fell in love. It's really funny but touching at the same time. And one thing I also like is that it's not just about one thing. It's not just about the experiment. It's not just about Soo Hyun and Hye Rim's relationship. (I can't say much more without giving away but you get what I mean), it's about a load of things at one time which I like since, in my opinion, it makes it a more well-rounded drama. That's one thing that was lacking for me with, for example, 'My Love From The Star', it's just about Do Min Jun and Cheon Song Yi and their relationship, with little-to-no side plots (well, there were some, but none were that gripping), where as this one is full of them and I feel it allows a lot more chance for character growth.

One thing that wasn't quite to my taste in this drama is that it was a little bit all over the place at times. In a few episodes I couldn't help but think to myself 'what's the point to this plot line?' or simply that some plot lines, that could have been very happy with, let's say, 2? 3 episodes? But instead they're dragged out across numerous episodes almost to serve as fillers to the episode. I get that some plot lines need more episodes than others, but there's one about an actress with histrionic personality disorder, that lasts about 3 or 4 episodes, when really, it could have been solved at 2 or 3 episodes, maximum.
Another thing is the experiment. It goes on and on and after a while it's a bit dull and I think I speak for many people when I say that at times I couldn't help but think "okay, we get it! Make your mind up already!".

Other than that, really, I was very happy with this drama. It was really funny, interesting and it managed to grip me which is refreshing as normally I'm seriously picky with things like series and dramas that I like. Plus, I mean, let's face it, the guys on this drama are pretty easy on the eyes! (I feel like I say that for every drama - why do Korean men have to be so damn cute and hot at the same time?! *sulks in a corner* "bloody Seo In Guk with his cute lil' smile and his hair. And what's with Sung Joon and that smirk? *carries on sulking until she realises how dumb she's being and gets herself together*).

What drama should I watch next? I've heard many good things about Descendants From The Sun. Though I have many dramas backed up that I want to watch so we'll see.

What dramas have you been loving recently?

Why K-Pop and Dramas Have Ruined My Life | Dying For Drama

Annyeong!

Okay... So the title is a bit of an exaggeration, but you get what I mean, right? I wanted to make a lil' list about why K-Pop and dramas have ruined my life.

I Curse In Korean
I mean, come on! I'm bilingual (French and English) to begin with, and it was bad enough for everyone in my class when I cursed in English, but now I've started cursing in Korean too! I blame the dramas for it, I swear.

Everything Comes Back To Idols
Most of the alphabet makes me think about an idol or another (looking at you L of Infinite, Hen (pronounced N") of VIXX and V of BTS).
Someone asks me for a pencil in class, and in French, pencil is crayon... you know where this is going - GET YOUR CRAYON!!
My Mum goes shopping, I was cookies, and all of a suddenly thinking of Jungkook!
I see a post about Barbie and Ken and I'm thinking about Ken from VIXX!

I Spend My Time Watching Videos of Idols and Laughing Alone Like An Idiot
Every time I go to my best friend's house (who is a non-kpopper), I'm stuck on my computer, watching videos of K-Pop groups (I might aswell stay at home, really).

Constant K-Pop Always
I can pretty much guarantee to you that 90% of my day consists of me either singing or dancing a k-pop song or dance. All the time. Everyone thinks I'm mental.

Whenever a Group Has A Comeback, It's All I Can Talk About
To give you an example, on Monday, BTS had their comeback with "화양연화: Young Forever" and I basically wet myself with excitement. And it was all I could think about until Thursday when I came home and was able to listen to it!

But, despite all that, I bloody love it, so I put up with the impraticalities, because, really, they're not that bad.

In what way have k-pop and dramas ruined your life? Let me know down in the comments and we can suffer together haha.

The Rundown: BTS | Dying For Drama

Annyeong!

This is a little segment I'm going to do from time to time since I could have used something like this when I was starting out in k-pop so I thought it would be cool for other people who are starting out to give them a helping hand. Basically what I'll be doing is giving a rundown of a specific group (male or female).

Today I'm going to be talking about my favourite group, BTS.

He used to be an underground rapper before joining BigHit and has been shunned by a lot of the underground rapping community for it.
He is often known as the grandad of the group because he sleeps a lot and doesn't tend to move unless it's absolutely necessary.

He is the messiest member of Bangtan.
Rap Mon is the only member of the original Bangtan Boys line-up.
